word from a fortune cookie

I opened up a fortune cookie yesterday which read "imagination is greater than knowledge"

I've learned (and subsequently forgotten) so much that I must entirely agree. Why is it that we immerse our kids in so many 'envinments for learning' ? Why are academic results so valued? ... shouldn't we equip our kids with thinking caps instead of exam certificates... Grammar schools used to select students on their verbal reasoning abilities so there must be some truth in this argument.
